Ocean-Inspired Custom Wedding Rings with Rare Benitoite | Jon & Aura’s Story

At Takayas Custom Jewelry, every ring tells a story—and for Jon and Aura, that story was one of rare beauty, deep symbolism, and a once-in-a-lifetime design. If you’ve been dreaming of wedding rings that are truly one-of-a-kind, their journey might just spark your own.

A Rare Gem for Her

When Jon first reached out, he came with a clear vision: to build a bridal set around Aura’s stunning benitoite, a rare California-born gemstone known for its rich ocean-blue color. For the couple, benitoite wasn’t just beautiful—it held emotional weight, echoing the crashing waves and shimmering surf of the coast they love.

“This stone has a gradient of color that reminds me of a wave crashing onto shore,” Aura shared during the design process.

Aura’s custom engagement ring was designed to showcase the benitoite center stone, framed by a pair of matching accent stones. Takayas sculpted elegant flowing metalwork—a motif of palm fronds swaying in a coastal breeze. Subtle side galleries capture the rhythm of ocean waves, anchoring the piece in nature’s serene beauty.

To complement the engagement ring, we created a coordinating wedding band adorned with three benitoite stones, representing past, present, and future—a timeless symbol of their shared journey.

When worn together, Aura’s set forms a graceful, unified composition—expressive and elegant.

A Tribute to His Father

For his own piece, Jon asked Takayas to honor the legacy of his father’s ring. Drawing directly from that design, Takayas incorporated a distinctive braid motif in 18K yellow gold, carried over from his father’s band. This elegant detail was set against a sleek platinum base, creating a bold yet meaningful contrast.

We also integrated a trio of colored gemstones—amethyst, ruby, and benitoite—chosen for their rich, contrasting colors and how they complement the ring’s design.

Working with Jon and Aura was a heartfelt reminder of why we do what we do. Their rings are more than jewelry—they’re wearable art, symbols of identity, history, and love.
