H.R. Giger Inspired Biomechanical Hands Ring

It's always such a pleasure to design a ring based on the work of an artist like H.R. Giger whose art continues to be an enduring inspiration to so many other artists across so many other mediums.
When Jeff commissioned us to design an engagement ring in the surrealist style of H.R. Giger, we were immediately thrilled to create another ring paying homage to his remarkable work. Jeff's girlfriend Justine was a big Giger fan, and he wanted to create a ring for her inspired by one of her favorite pieces of jewelry modeled after his work, the "Lover's Pendant".

Takayas incorporated the twisted hand style by designing the ring's setting to be two hands cradling the .25 ct diamond. However, unlike the hands designs used in more traditional bands like claddagh rings, he wanted these hands to look unnatural in the way that many of the bodies in Giger's works are contorted.

Giger has described much of his work as biomechanical, playing with the intersection between human and machine.

To carry this biomechanical theme into the ring, Takayas replaced the middle finger with a spiked needle, and he incorporated veins that were meant to appear as if they had grown out of the hands and had begun to fasten themselves onto the rest of the ring's shank.

We're happy to report that when Jeff proposed to Justine, she said yes! She was thrilled with the ring's design and was kind enough to write us a lovely thank you note.

"Hello!
Recently my boyfriend, well now he is my fiancé, proposed to me with a ring that you made for us and I wanted to send you a few pictures and to thank you so much for the most gorgeous and amazing piece of art you made for me. He had asked for the ring to be modeled after a pendant that I have that is a replica of an HR Giger sculpture. I am sure he mentioned that I am a life long HR Giger fan (and have even dedicated my entire right arm to tattoos inspired by his art) and so he knew how much an engagement ring styled after his art, would mean to me....and he is right, the ring is truly a beautiful and so very very meaningful to me on so many levels and your brilliant artistry really made it incredible.
So from the bottom of my heart, I thank you and your team for creating the most amazing engagement ring ever!
And in the near future we will be contacting you about creating wedding bands for us.
Thank you so very much,
Justine Miller
PS- I have enclosed pictures and when I get better ones, I will send those as well."
