DNA Double Helix Engagement Ring

In scientific terms, DNA is a molecule that consists of two long chains twisted that creates a double helix shape. It plays a central role in our bodies and is responsible for the transmission of hereditary characteristics from parents to offspring. To Larry and Edye the meaning of the DNA goes deeper than this: it meant the growth of their relationship. Larry and Edye are both scientists that reside in Los Angeles, CA. The couple wanted Takayas to create a unique ring for them that symbolizes not only their love but also embodies them as a couple.

Some words from Larry...

My fiancé and I are science geeks with an appreciation of elegance. We talked about many ideas for a ring and became intrigued with the idea of a DNA theme. DNA provides the informational foundation for life. The capabilities encoded in DNA enable organisms to grow from a fertilized egg into a thriving adult. In a real sense we saw DNA as a symbol of our growing relationship.

We came to Takayas with the concept of an engagement ring based on DNA, representing our commitment to build a life together in a vibrant relationship. Aesthetically, chemically, and symbolically it felt right for us.

After searching through many hundreds of pictures of rings on the web, we found that Takayas’ work stood out from the rest. The sophistication and originality of his designs were striking. Happily he made time to meet with us to discuss our ideas. He had already done research in preparation of our visit and so had a sense of the double helix structure of DNA and how it might be captured in a ring.

We discussed our ideas and agreed on a few concepts for Takayas to explore. Then came a time of nervous anticipation as we waited to see what he would create. When the day came to see his design, we discovered that he had far surpassed our hopes. He’d captured the three dimensional beauty of DNA and incorporated it into something exquisite. The final ring is gorgeous, comfortable, and very fun! Friends who see the ring are in awe of its beauty and delighted by how it captures who we are as people and as a couple. Takayas took our concept to a place we could not have imagined. For that we are so very grateful. Takayas Mizuno is a great artist and a master craftsman: the ring he created for us is stunning.
